” Pretty Girl ” is by Maggie Lindemann, the American singer and songwriter. Maggie grew up in Dallas, Texas and at the age of four, she joined her local church choir. While in junior high school, She began recording videos of her singing and posting them on KEEK, the social media app.
KEEK, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada was founded in 2011 by Isaac Raichyk and Mark Itwaru. It was a free online social network that allowed members to upload video updates, known as ” Keeks “. In 2016 the service was rebranded and is now known as Peeks Video.
Using the service, Maggie built up a large following with one of her ” keeks ” finding its way onto a fan’s YouTube channel. The former Sony Music Marketing Strategist, Gerald Tennison, saw the clip and contacted the family of Maggie to manage the rising star. Her debut single ” Knocking On Your Heart “, released in September 2015 reached the Top Twenty on the iTunes Alternative Chart.
Maggie isn’t intending to fit neatly into the teen singer stereotype saying on her website ” I don’t want people to just expect poppy songs because I’m a teen girl. ” Adding ” The boundaries are wide open. I’m going to do what I want, say what I want, and be what I want. I hope everyone feels like they can do the same thing when they hear me. ”
” Pretty Girl “, released on the 30th of September 2016 by record label 300 Entertainment ( Warner Music Group ), was written by Maggie Lindemann, Sasha Sloan and Sean Myer. Sasha, real name Alexandra Yatchenko, is based in Los Angeles and has worked with Kaskade, Idina Menzel, Austin Mahone and Madison Beer. Sean Myer is a Los Angeles based songwriter and producer. He worked as an engineer and producer on the Jake Miller Album, Parade.
The song was produced by Jayson DeZuzio. The Los Angeles based writer and producer has worked with a variety of artists including Dua Lipa, Christina Aguilera, Lana Del Ray, Cheryl Cole, Brooke Candy, Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels.
Maggie explained the lyrics during in an interview with Braudie Blais-Billie of Billboard Magazine ” ‘Pretty Girl’ is about being more than just what people see online and girls being more than our physical appearances. I think people need to look past just that and find what’s deeper. ”
The accompanying music video was directed by Roman White, the Nashville, Tennessee born music video and film director. Roman has eleven Emmy nominations and won the MTV Music Video Award for Taylor Swift’s ” You Belong With Me “, the Billboard Hot 100 Chart number two single.
As a music video director, he has directed many of Carrie Underwood’s videos. Roman has also worked with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Florida Georgia Line, Kelsea Ballerini, Cassadee Pope, Josh Groban, Thomas Rhett, Danielle Bradbery, Kellie Pickler, Hunter Hayes, Maddie & Tae and Justin Bieber.
” Pretty Girl ” has been a commercial success for Maggie. In the United States, the song reached number twenty-six on the Billboard Spotify Viral 50 Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 11th of May 2017 and reached a peak of number eight. To date, it has spent twenty weeks on the UK chart.
