Clive Maldoon’s niece, Christine Leach, recorded a version of ” Sepheryn ” in 1996. She spent some time working with William Orbit. Christine expressed her love for the song saying it had a dream-like quality.
Madonna heard the version by Christine and liked it; she set about reworking the lyrics. The remaining half of Curtiss Maldoon, Dave Curtiss, said after hearing the reworked track that he ” couldn’t believe it “, he was pleased with her interpretation of the track’s original composition.
Madonna commented on ” Sepheryn ” saying ” It’s totally out of control. The original version is well over 10 minutes long. It was completely indulgent, but I loved it. It was heartbreaking to cut it down to a manageable length “.
