Rehab Amy Winehouse

” Rehab ” is by Amy Winehouse ( Amy Jade Winehouse ), the English singer and songwriter. The song was written by Amy Winehouse. Production for the single was done by Mark Ronson; Mark is best known for his Number One single ” Uptown Funk ” which featured the vocals of Bruno Mars.
” Rehab ” was released by record label Island on the 23rd of October 2006 and taken as the lead single from Amy’s second and last Album, Back to black.
Lyrically the song talks about Amy’s refusal to attend an alcohol rehabilitation centre. Her management team encouraged Amy to attend. She said of the experience ” I asked my dad if he thought I needed to go. He said no, but I should give it a try. So I did, for just 15 minutes. I went in said ‘hello’ and explained that I drink because I am in love and have screwed up the relationship. Then I walked out “.
19 Management, the management company, run by Simon Fuller, of Spice Girls fame, was later dropped by Amy after the singer attended Rehab.
The video that accompanies ” Rehab ” was directed by veteran director Phil Griffin. He has worked with artists from Diana Ross, Keith Urban, Paul McCartney and the Sugababes.
Filmed on location in London at 32 Portland Place, then it was a derelict building with rust covered, faded green walls. Today the building is occupied by two companies, an electronics manufacturer and a Machine Repairs company.
For the video, Phil Griffin had Amy along with her backing band move from one room to another in the eight-floor complex, which was abandoned at the time.
In 2007 the video was nominated for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards. However Rihanna’s ” Umbrella ” beat Amy to win the award.
” Rehab ” won critical acclaim from across the board. ” Motown-style winner with a banging beat and a lovesick bad girl testifying like Etta James ” was the reaction from Rolling Stone.
People magazine said the track was ” instantly memorable ” while Billboard commented that Amy’s vocals where ” Shirley Bassey-meets-Ella Fitzgerald” and called the track “a better buzz than a double-gin martini “.

In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 28th of October 2006 at number nineteen, climbing to reach a peak of number seven. It spent two weeks in the Top Ten and a total of seventy-six weeks on the UK chart.
