” Remembrance Day ” is by David Nyro, the American Singer-songwriter based in Seattle in the US. David was born in Connecticut, known as the nutmeg state, but was raised in many States from New Jersey to Hawaii.
In addition to being a talented songwriter, David also plays the piano, guitar, harmonica and banjo. He was just 13 when he played in his first band; his musical influences are a diverse range of artists across many music genres from The Beatles, Van Morrison and Stevie Wonder to Puccini, Chopin and Phillip Glass.
The song was written and arranged by David Nyro with production and engineering by Michael Connolly. ” Remembrance Day ” was recorded in February 2014 at the Empty Sea Studios, Seattle. The recording studio is located in a renovated Craftsman house in Phinney Ridge. Empty Sea Studios boasts a hand-built mahogany stage, recording studio, production studio and concert venue.
Released on the 17th of April 2014, the inspiration for the song came from the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013. Two bombs were detonated on the 15th of April 2013 near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, three spectators lost their lives, and 260 others were wounded in the blast. One of the suspects, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured by Police, his 26-year-old elder brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed during a shootout with law enforcement officers.
The event affected David, not just because of the sheer horror of the bombing of innocent people, but because two of his family members were there that day. David’s two nieces were at the finish line of the Marathon before the bombs went off, they had walked a few blocks away at the time. If they’d lingered there, then they could have been killed or injured. Luckily for David his nieces were shaken but safe, others weren’t so lucky in the attack.
Although it was the terrible event on that day in 2013 in Boston that gave David the inspiration for the song, other tragedies helped the song take shape, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech and Columbine all played a part.
” Remembrance Day ” is a song for all those caught up in these types of tragedies, the world over. The song is as relevant today after London, Paris and Berlin as back in 2014 when the song was released.
David raised over $2,000 using a Kickstarter campaign to record the song and produce the video. Writing for neverenoughnotes.co.uk, Kimberly-Marie Sklinar quoted David’s reason for the campaign saying ” Our dream/goal is to raise awareness and support for causes working to address the issues involved: mental illness, bullying, gun control, and much more. ”
” Remembrance Day ” was written to bring awareness to those tragic events and the many others around the world.
