Ride A White Horse Goldfrapp

” Ride A White Horse ” is by Goldfrapp the English electronic duo from London England. Taken from the third album, Supernature. The song was written by Alison Goldfrapp, Will Gregory and Nick Batt. Inspiration came from the famous New York nightclub Studio 54 which opened in 1977.
Alison Goldfrapp has always denied the song is about Bianca Jagger and the now infamous entry into Studio 54 on a white horse.
Written and composed in a rented cottage in Bath in the UK, ” Ride A White Horse ” was the result of a jamming session where Alison and Will Gregory bounced ideas off each other, with the influences of 70s glam rock like T.Rex. The writing took a distinctive 70s glam rock feel.
The release of the song as the third single from the album met with positive reviews by critics and had success commercially.
” Ride A White Horse ” was released in different formats across the world, Many had a digital download and CD single, while in the United Kingdom there was a release of a limited 12″ single.
Along with frequent releases and the limited edition 12″ single, Goldfrapp also released a DVD single which included a behind the scenes look at the tour and a live version of the single ” Ride a white horse “.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the charts at number fifteen and stayed on there for three weeks. Along with a Top Twenty for the UK, the song also proved to be popular on UK radio with a chart position of number twenty-three on the airplay chart.
However, success wasn’t entirely replicated in Ireland, ” Ride A White Horse ” entered the Irish Singles Chart at number thirty-six but slipped out of the chart after only a week.
In February it was released in the United States as the last of the singles from the album. However, the American record-buying public wasn’t as keen on the song as other Goldfrapp offerings and ” Ride A White Horse ” was only to scrape a twenty-nine position on the Billboard Dance Chart.
