Ali Payami is an Swedish music composer, producer, writer and singer. He has collaborated with Max Martin on many Billboard chart hits. His first was ” Love Me Harder ” by Ariana Grande. Ali’s first Billboard Hot 100 Chart Number One was ” Can’t Feel My Face ” by The Weeknd.
Savan Kotecha is an American songwriter and record producer. He has co-written hits for the likes of Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, Usher, Maroon 5, Britney Spears, One Direction, Jessie J and Demi Lovato. He has received 9 BMI Awards, 13 ASCAP Awards and 2 Billboard Music Awards. Savan has been involved in singles that have sold in excess of 250 million copies Worldwide.
” Rise ” was released on the 14th of July 2016 by record label Capitol ( Universal Music Group ). The song featured prominently during NBC Sports coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The mid-tempo empowering song is built around the theme of struggle and perseverance that ultimately leads to victory. It was loved by critics, one critic, Sophie Gilbert of The Atlantic wrote that the song is ” a languid anthem of determination that uses an echo machine and aggressive use of metaphor to evoke icons as diverse as Katniss Everdeen, Maya Angelou, and Jesus.”
The accompanying official music video was directed by Paul Gore, who has worked with artists like Paloma Faith, John Legend, a-ha, Massive Attack and Amy Winehouse. Filmed on location in Snow Canyon State Park and Sand Hollow State Park in Utah, it shows Katy struggling to get her parachute to fly.
” Rise ” was a commercial success for Katy. In the United States the song debuted and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. It spent a total of 9 weeks on the chart there. The song reached Number One on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart, spending 11 weeks on that chart.
In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 28th of July 2016 and reached a peak of number 25. It spent 1 week in the top forty and a total of 6 weeks on the UK chart.
