Rock me Amadeus Falco
Song Title: Rock me Amadeus
Date of release: 16 June 1985 (Germany) 28 March 1986 (Worldwide)
Description: ” Rock me Amadeus ” by Falco the Austrian musician. The song released in 1985 and was taken from the Album ” Falco 3 “.
Written by Falco ( Real name Johann Holzel ) and Bolland & Bolland the Dutch music producers.
” Rock me Amadeus ” was a commercial success giving Falco a number one single on both the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart and the UK Chart. At the time Falco was the most successful music export from his native Austria with number one singles on both sides of the Atlantic.
” Rock me Amadeus ” was the first time a German-speaking artist had reached number one in the United states, credited with a number one single on both the Billboard Hot 100 and also the Cash Box Top 100 Singles Chart.
The song also reached the dizzy heights of number one in the United Kingdom in February 1986, along with the US number one Falco was the first Austrian to achieve this.
Falco wrote the song about another famous Austrian ” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ” the 18th century classical composer. Before ” Rock me Amadeus ” reached the top slot many people where unfamiliar with the middle name of Mozart.
The lyrics to the song are an interesting insight into the composer with references to his popularity and debts. For the first US release of the Album the “Salieri Mix” was used, all eight minutes of it.
There was never a full English version released, instead for international record buyers including the USA, UK and Japan, several different versions were produced.
However none had full English lyrics and still used the German lyrics albeit in a lesser amount than the original.
The music video for ” Rock me Amadeus ” mixes 80’s society and that of 18th century Vienna, the time of Mozart. In the video Falco is wearing a smart dinner jacket and passes people dress in style of the time.
In the latter scenes he is seen dressed as Mozart himself but with colourful hair, he is held on the shoulders of men dressed in motorcycle clothing. The video ends when the two different crowds of people mix together dancing around Falco who is on a stage.
