Rock Me Amadeus Falco

” Rock Me Amadeus ” is by Falco, the Austrian musician. The song, released in 1985, was written by Falco ( Real name Johann Holzel ) and Bolland & Bolland the Dutch music producers and taken from the album, Falco 3
” Rock Me Amadeus ” was a commercial success giving Falco a Number One single on both the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom. At the time Falco was the most successful music export from his native Austria with chart-topping singles on both sides of the Atlantic. According to Falco’s estate, the singer has worldwide sales of over 20 million albums and 40 million singles, making him the best-selling Austrian singer of all time. On the 6th of February 1998, Falco was killed in a car accident when his vehicle collided with a bus in the Dominican Republic.
” Rock Me Amadeus ” was the first time a German-speaking artist had reached the top of the mainstream charts in the United States, credited with a Number One single on both the Billboard Hot 100 and also the Cash Box Top 100 Singles Chart.
The song also reached the top of the chart in the United Kingdom during February 1986, Falco was the first Austrian to achieve the feat.
Falco wrote the song about another famous Austrian ” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart “, the 18th-century classical composer. Before ” Rock Me Amadeus ” reached the top spot, many people were unfamiliar with the middle name of Mozart.
The lyrics to the song are a fascinating insight into the composer with references to his popularity and debts. For the first US release of the album, the ” Salieri Mix ” was used, all eight minutes of it.
There was never a full English version released, instead of for international record buyers including the United States, United Kingdom and Japan, several different versions were produced.
However, none had full English lyrics and still used the German words albeit in a lesser amount than the original.
The music video for ” Rock Me Amadeus ” mixes 80s society and that of 18th century Vienna, the time of Mozart. In the video, Falco is wearing a smart dinner jacket and passes people dress in the style of the time.
In the later scenes he is seen dressed as Mozart himself, but with bright hair, he is held on the shoulders of men dressed in motorcycle clothing. The video ends when the two different crowds of people mix dancing around Falco who is on a stage.
