” Scared of the Dark ” is by Steps, the British dance-pop group. The line-up consists of Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian ‘ H ‘ Watkins.
The group, formed by Barry Upton and Steve Crosby in May 1997, released four studio albums, three compilation albums and seventeen singles.
The name Steps was based on a marketing basis that the group’s videos were to include choreographed dance moves that could be copied by fans. The dance steps used in each of the videos were added in the sleeves of most of the group’s singles.
Steps have released a series of charting singles which included two Number One singles in the United Kingdom, one of which was a double A-side. They have also released two Number One albums in the country ( to date ). The group have had a string of hits throughout Europe and has sold over 20 million records worldwide.
” Scared of the Dark ” was written by Carl Ryden and Fiona Bevan. Carl Ryden is a Swedish award-winning, multi-platinum-selling songwriter, musician and producer. He co-wrote ” Delirious ” by David Guetta and Tara McDonald. He also co-wrote and produced the hit single ” This Ain’t Love ” for Jessica Mauboy, which reached number five on the Australian ARIA Chart.
Fiona Bevan is an English singer-songwriter currently based in London. She is best known for co-writing, with Ed Sheeran, the song ” Little Things “. The song went on to become a Number One single in thirteen countries for the boy band, One Direction.
” Scared of the Dark ” was released on the 10th of March 2017 by record labels Steps Music LLP and is taken as the lead single from the group’s fifth album, Tears on the Dancefloor.
The album, released on the 21st of April 2017, is the group’s first to be composed of all original material in 17 years. At the time of writing, Tears on the Dancefloor had reached number two on the UK Albums Chart.
In an interview with the British newspaper, The Sun, STEPS revealed that they recorded the vocals to the album separately.
Speaking to the paper in a live video chat, Lisa said: “ I literally came over [ from Dubai ] for a week, and I think within three days recorded all my parts. Everyone went in individually and recorded everything; we didn’t see anybody. ”
” Scared of the Dark ” became a commercial success for Steps. Within twelve hours of release, the single had reached Number One on the iTunes Chart in the United Kingdom, knocking Ed Sheeran and Coldplay & The Chainsmokers to numbers two and three, respectively.
A week later, the song had debuted at number thirty-seven on the UK Singles Chart and number three on the UK Indie Chart.
