” Sick and Tired ” is by Anastacia ( Anastacia Lyn Newkirk ), the American singer-songwriter and producer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she moved to New York City in her teens.
When she was thirteen years old, Anastacia was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a type of inflammatory bowel disease. An operation to try and cure the disease left her wheelchair-bound and needed how to learn to walk again.
In defiance of the illness, she became interested in dance. At the age of nineteen, a diet triggered a relapse with her illness. In 1990, her musical career began as a backing vocalist, singing backup vocals on Tiffany’s New Inside Album, released that year.
After being turned down by many record labels, Anastacia gained interest from labels in 1998 after making the finals of The Cut, a short-lived MTV talent show. In March 1999 she signed with Daylight Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment.
Anastacia has battled many health problems throughout her life. In addition to being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as a teenager, she was later, at the age of thirty-four, diagnosed with breast cancer and five years later with supraventricular tachycardia, which is an abnormally fast heart rhythm. In 2013, Anastacia was told she had breast cancer for the second time. On the 1st of October 2013, Anastacia said to the media that she had undergone a double mastectomy, timed to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In 2013, Anastacia became only the second woman to be presented with the Humanitarian Award at the GQ Men of the Year Awards, a recognition of her decade-long charitable efforts in breast cancer awareness. ( links to breast cancer/cancer charities at the bottom ).
She has sold more than fifty-two million records Worldwide and on two separate occasions has reached the top of the U.S. Dance Chart.
” Sick and Tired ” was written by Anastacia, Dallas Austin and Glen Ballard ( latter two co-produced the track ). Dallas is an American record producer, songwriter, musician and film producer. As a record producer, he has worked with artists like Madonna, George Michael, TLC, Grace Jones, Pink, Duran Duran, Gwen Stefani, Boyz II Men, Carly Rae Jepsen, Brand New Heavies and McFly.
Glen Ballard is an American songwriter and record producer. Best known for co-writing and producing Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morissette’s, a Billboard 200 Chart and UK Albums Chart Number One Album, released in 1995. The Album won Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, and Album of the Year. Glen was involved in the recording and writing of Michael Jackson’s Bad and Thriller, the most significant selling Album in history. He also co-wrote ” Man in the Mirror “, the Billboard Hot 100 Chart topper for Michael Jackson.
” Sick and Tired ” was released in Europe on the 19th of July 2004 by record label Daylight ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and was taken as the second single from Anastacia’s third studio Album, Anastacia.
The Album, released on the 29th of March 2004, the Album moved away from the disco-inspired sound of her previous Albums and more towards pop rock. Although never released in the United States, the Album was a commercial success for Anastacia. It reached the top of the Albums charts in many countries, including Australia, Belgium, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The Album became one of the Top ten best-selling Albums of 2004 in much of Europe. In the United Kingdom, the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) certified the Album 4× Platinum with sales of 1.2M.
The song samples the 2004 debut single ” Let The Music Play ” by Shamur, a music group formed by Emanuele Marascia and Alessandro Murru, both Italian producers.
The accompanying music video was filmed in Los Angeles on the 25th of May 2004. It was directed by Philipp Stölzl, the German film director, opera director and screenwriter. Philipp has worked with Faith No More, Madonna, Evanescence, Mick Jagger and Luciano Pavarotti.
” Sick and Tired ” was a commercial success for Anastacia. In the United States, it reached number eight on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK singles chart on the 14th of August 2004 and reached a peak of number four. It spent three weeks in the top ten and a total of eleven weeks on the UK chart.
