” Six Days ” is by DJ Shadow ( Joshua Paul Davis ), the American DJ and producer. He began on his road to a music career by experimenting with producing beats and breaks on a four-track recorder.
DJ Shadow has a personal collection of over sixty thousand records. To date, he has released five studio and six live albums. He has also released six singles.
The single was released in 2002 under the record label MCA Records, now part of the Universal Music Group.
The song was written by American singer-songwriter Dennis Olivieri and Brian Farrel, who was a vocalist with the former British rock band Colonel Bagehot.
” Six Days ” was taken from DJ Shadow’s second studio album, The Private Press. The album, released in June 2002, received critical acclaim from music critics.
In the United States, it reached number forty-four on the 22nd of June 2002 and spent six weeks on the Billboard 200.
In the United Kingdom, the album entered the UK Albums Chart on the 15th of June 2002 and peaked at number eight. It spent one week in the Top Ten and four weeks in the Top 100.
The song’s vocals were sampled from ” Six Day War “, a song by Colonel Bagehot which featured on their only studio album, Oh What a Lovely War.
DJ Shadow also uses a riff taken from Dennis Olivieri’s 1970 song ” I Cry in the Morning “.
The accompanying music video was directed by Wong Kar-wai, the Hong Kong filmmaker. Born on the 17th of July 1958 in Shanghai, China, he is a multi-award winning film director best known for movies Happy Together, The Grandmaster and In the Mood for Love.
It features the Taiwanese actor, Chang Chen and Danielle Graham, the Malaysian model. The video, published to DJ Shadow’s official YouTube channel in 2010 has to date been viewed over eleven million times.
The single became a successful release in the United Kingdom. It entered the UK Singles Chart on the 2nd of November 2002 and peaked at number twenty-eight.
It spent one week in the Top Forty and two weeks in the Top 100.
