During his career he has worked with Demi Lovato, Shakira, One Direction, The Wanted, Westlife, Susan Boyle, Il Divo, JLS, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, The Saturdays Rita Ora and James Blunt. Steve won the ASCAP ( ( American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers ) Songwriter of The Year Award in 2013 for co-writing ” Glad You Came ” by The Wanted.
The song was released on the 19th of May 2017 by record labels Capitol Records and Republic ( Universal Music Group ) and will feature as the lead single from Liam’s to be released debut studio Album.
” Strip That Down ” has influences from trap, hip hop, pop and R&B and features the uncredited vocals from one of the co-writers, Ed Sheeran, who sings ” strip that down, girl “. The song also features guest vocals from Quavo ( Quavious Keyate Marshall ), American rapper.
Lyrically the song talks of of wealth, celebrity appeal and newly discovered career independence. Liam said of the song ” It just sets a few things straight, but then also the chorus is more about stripping back the music. I like to hear it loud sometimes, but sometimes you got to strip it back. ”
The accompanying music video was directed by Emil Nava, the British director. Best known for his work in music videos, Emil has worked with a variety of artists including Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, Alesso, Juicy J, Ed Sheeran, Zara Larsson, Dua Lipa, Camila Cabello, Pharrell, T.I., Ne-Yo, Taio Cruz and Rudimental.
” Strip That Down ” has been a commercial success for Liam. In the United States ( At the time of writing ) the song reached a peak of number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and so far spent 6 weeks on the chart. It has also reached number 36 on the Adult Top 40 Chart, 22 on the Mainstream Top 40 Chart and 17 on the US Rhythmic Chart.
In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 1st of June 2017 and reached a peak of number 3. To date the song has spent 7 weeks in the top ten and 7 weeks on the UK chart.
