” Strong enough ” was Cher’s second single from the twenty-second Album of her career ” Believe ” which was released in 1998.
The song has a strong 1970’s disco feel to it and seemed to be cher moving away from her usual style.
The shift by Cher into a more modern pop music style went down well with music critics with many saying ” Strong enough ” was the highlight of the Album ” Believe “.
Allmusic commented ” Cher herself merely moves through the beat factory with one drab vocal range, blending butt-shaker “.
Along with the opinions of music critics, the record buying public soon took to the song. In the United States the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and climbed to reach number 57, the song stayed on the chart for 12 weeks.
In the US there was not a great deal of attention paid to the song, this picked up once promo remixes were released, the song then went on to reach number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart.
In the United States momentum for the song gathered pace, after a slow start ” Strong enough ” reached number 31 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 and 29 on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks Chart.
Outside of the US, Cher enjoyed chart success across Europe and elsewhere with top ten placements in many countries.
In Australia the song made it to number 11, there the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) certified the single Gold with sales of 35,000.
Cher took the song into the top ten in many countries including, New Zealand, Germany, France, Finland, Spain and Switzerland.
In the United Kingdom, ” Strong enough ” entered the UK chart and climbed to reach number 5, the song spent 3 weeks in the top ten and spent a total of 10 weeks on the chart.
