The song’s lyrics suggest that Inna wants everybody to party with the lines ” All the people tonight, put your hands in the sky ” and asking boys to get in the rhythm with ” Come on boy, come and get in the rhythm, music will take you high “.
Generally the song received positive reviews from music critics, the British newspaper The Guardian’s Paul Lester commented that ” the song reminds of Boys Boys Boys by Sabrina “, the song was actually called ” Boys (Summertime Love) ” which was a big hit in many countries in 1987.
Inna’s ” Sun is up ” was to become her biggest hit of her career to date. After sending the single to Romanian radio stations, the song reached number two on the Romanian Top 100 and number one on the Bulgarian Airplay Chart.
” Sun is up ” was also to be a success elsewhere in Europe, in France the song reached number 2 and the song reached number 3 on both the Swiss Singles Chart and the Russian Airplay Chart.
In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK chart and reached number 15, it spent 5 weeks in the top 20 and a total of 14 weeks on the UK chart.
In the United States, ” Sun is up ” reached number 4 on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, there the song spent 17 weeks on the chart.
Along with chart success Inna also was nominated three times in 2011 at the Romanian Music Awards, she went on to win the Eurodanceweb Award that same year.
