” Swing The Mood ” is by Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers, the father and son team John and Andrew Pickles from Rotherham, South Yorkshire in the United Kingdom.
The song was produced by Andy Pickles and Les Hemstock, the DJ and producer who created the original ” Swing The Mood ” mix for The Music Factory Entertainment Group.
The track is built on the ” In The Mood ” original by American wartime prominent band leader Glenn Miller.
The tune is better known for the musical style known as swing, the method of music and dancing that made Glenn a worldwide star in the 1930s and 40s.
Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers took the swing style of Glenn Miller and mixed favourite tracks from the 50s rock ‘n’ roll era to produce a cut and paste dance track.
Samples used on the track are from some of the most significant, artists in music history.
Artists that are household names today 50 to 60 years after they were hits including, Chubby Checker, Glenn Miller, Bill Haley & His Comets, Little Richard, The Everly Brothers, Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley and Danny & the Juniors.
Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers released ” Swing The Mood ” in 1989 via the Indisc and BCM record labels; the song was one of three consecutive Number ones in the United Kingdom making Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers only one of the few to have three number ones with their first three singles.
The singles have been compared to previous mix singles like Stars on 45 and Mirage, these used session singers to recreate the original songs used, Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers utilised actual recordings from the original artists.
At first music critics panned and mocked the song, however, in the United States ” Swing The Mood ” entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and reached number eleven, the song stayed on the chart for twenty weeks.
In the United Kingdom ” Swing The Mood ” entered the UK Singles Chart at Number One and held the position for five weeks, the song stayed in the Top Ten for eight weeks and spent a total of nineteen weeks on the UK chart.
Despite some copyright problems that ended with a re-recorded version being released, ” Swing The Mood ” was to be the second best-selling single of 1989 in the United Kingdom after Black Box with their single ” Ride On Time “.
