” Talking in Your Sleep ” is by Bucks Fizz, the British pop group. Made up of Bobby G, Mike Nolan, Jay Aston and Cheryl Baker. They were formed in January 1981 specifically for the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Ireland, which they won with ” Making Your Mind Up “.
The single, released in March 1981 as the group’s debut, was a huge hit topping the charts in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom, where it held the top spot for three weeks.
To date, Bucks Fizz has released twenty-four singles, six studio Albums, one live Album, eight Compilation Albums and eighteen music videos.
Today, there are two versions of the group. The official version, which includes original member Bobby G. The other, using the name The Fizz, comprises of the other three original members who tour alongside Bobby McVay.
The song was written by Coz Canler, Mike Skill, Wally Palmar, Peter Solley and Jimmy Marinos.
Production for the Bucks Fizz cover was by Andy Hill. Andy is an English record producer and songwriter, born in Bracknell, Berkshire, England in 1957, he wrote or co-wrote many hits during the 80s and 90s. Along with writing for Bucks Fizz, he has written for artists including Celine Dion, Cliff Richard, Ronan Keating, Diana Ross and Cher. Andy co-wrote Celine Dion’s ” Think Twice ” which became one of the biggest-selling records of all time in the United Kingdom.
” Talking in Your Sleep ” was initially a hit single for The Romantics, reaching a peak of number three on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The American rock band from Detroit, Michigan, were formed in 1977. The group enjoyed popularity in the United States, Canada, parts of Asia, Australia and many countries of Europe. Their music is often labelled as power pop or new wave. The Romantics are as famous for their red leather suits as they are for their catchy tunes.
The cover version by Bucks Fizz was released on the 17th of August 1984 by record label RCA ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and featured on the group’s fourth album; I Hear Talk. The Album, released in November 1984, was not liked by critics. I Hear Talk entered the UK Albums Chart on the 24th of November 1984, reaching a peak of number sixty-six.
The accompanying music video for ” Talking in Your Sleep ” was directed by Dieter Trattmann, the award-winning Swiss Director, Editor and Producer.
Dieter, born and raised in Switzerland, now lives in Los Angeles. He has worked with many artists including Donna Summer, the Thompson Twins, Cliff Richard and Placido Domingo.
During his career, Dieter has worked on over 200 commercials, music videos and live concerts. He has also directed many films and TV shows. In 1985, he won UK Music Video Awards for Best Live Concert, in 1987 the German Music Awards for Best Director and in 1989, Dieter won Best International Video at the Montreux Pop Festival for Climie Fisher ” Rise to the Occasion “, which reached number ten on the UK Singles Chart in 1987.
” Talking in Your Sleep ” was a commercial success for Bucks Fizz. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 25th of August 1984 and reached a peak of number fifteen. It spent two weeks in the Top Twenty and a total of nine weeks on the UK chart.
The song also charted in Ireland and Poland.
