Before he found fame, Shayne was part of a band called Destiny with Tracy Murphy and Tracey Lyle. The three performed around the area in pubs and clubs and at wedding receptions. He rose to fame when he won the second series of the UK talent show, The X Factor.
” That’s My Goal ” was written by Jörgen Elofsson, Jem Godfrey and Bill Padley. Jörgen is a Swedish Grammy-nominated songwriter. Born on the 14th of January 1962, his first taste of the music scene came when he became the lead singer and guitarist in several bands playing gigs in his local area.
Jörgen started a solo career using the artist name Shane; he released his first single, ” Dance With Another “, taken from his 1989 debut Album, Man in Me. In 1993 he decided to cease being a solo artist and concentrate on writing.
He has written songs for many top recording artists including Britney Spears, Westlife, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Paloma Faith, Jennifer Rush, Jennifer Lopez and Agnetha Fältskog.
Jörgen has won one Ivor Novello Award and has been nominated for a Brit award and the Song of the Year Grammy Award, which was for ” Stronger ( What Doesn’t Kill You ) “, the Billboard Hot 100 Chart Number One by Kelly Clarkson.
Jem Godfrey ( Jeremy ” Jem ” Godfrey ) is a British award-winning music producer, keyboardist and songwriter. Jem was born on the 6th of October 1971. As a composer, his credits included Jennifer Ellison’s ” Bye Bye Boy “, ” What’s Your Name ” by Morcheeba and ” Whole Again “, Atomic Kitten’s UK Number One single. Jem has produced for Blue, Ronan Keating, Atomic Kitten, Holly Valance, Lulu and Gareth Gates.
Bill Padley is a Scottish award-winning Record Producer and Songwriter. Born in March 1961, Bill has been credited on many hit songs by artists such as Atomic Kitten, Jennifer Ellison, Samantha Mumba, Blue and Ronan Keating. Today Bill is a presenter on Talk Radio Europe, previously presenting shows on Radio Victory, Radio Clyde, BBC GLR and Isle of Wight Radio.
” That’s My Goal ” was produced by Per Magnusson and David Kreuger. The Swedish producers have worked together on many projects that have enjoyed international success. They both were original team members of the now-legendary Cheiron Productions, which had success worldwide working with Boyzone, Britney Spears, Westlife and the Backstreet Boys.
When the Studios closed, Per Magnusson and David Kreuger formed A Side Productions at the end of 2000, located in the centre of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. They have produced songs for Backstreet Boys, Boyzone, Celine Dion, Leona Lewis, E-type, Gareth Gates, Il Divo, Katherine Jenkins, Steps and Britney Spears.
” That’s My Goal ” was released on the 21st of December 2005 by record label Syco ( Simon Cowell’s record label ) and taken as the debut single from Shayne’s debut Album, Shayne Ward.
The Album released 17th of April 2006, debuted at the top of both the Irish Albums Chart and the UK Albums Chart. As of November 2015, it has been certified Platinum in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) for sales of 538,918 copies. The album has sold over 1,120,000 copies Worldwide to date.
Shayne became the first X Factor winner to release an original composition as his winner’s single. All the other winners of the show released a cover of another well-known song, until 2016 when Matt Terry released his original winners single ” When Christmas Comes Around “.
” That’s My Goal ” became the fastest-selling song of 2005 after selling 313,000 copies in the first two days of release, making it the third fastest-selling single of all time in the United Kingdom, behind Elton John’s ” Candle in the Wind 1997 ” and ” Evergreen ” by Will Young.
The song was a commercial success for Shayne. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 25th of December 2005 at Number One, spending four weeks at the top. It spent eight weeks in the Top Ten and a total of twenty-three weeks on the chart.
The single also charted in Ireland and Sweden.
