” The Nights ” is by Avicii ( Tim Bergling ), who was a Swedish DJ and record producer.
Avicii was born on the 8th of September 1989 in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm. Although his father, Klas, had musical taste along the lines of Ray Charles, his son’s music preference was more dance music after discovering the genre as a teenager.
Tim Bergling took his stage name, Avicii, from the Buddhist word for the lowest level of hell and added another i at the end, to give his stage name.
Avicii’s first song to go mainstream was ” Seek Bromance “, released on the 17th of October 2010 under the name Tim Berg. The single featured uncredited English singer, Amanda Wilson. The song reached number thirteen on the UK Singles Chart and peaked inside the Top Ten in Australia, Belgium ( both Flanders and Wallonia ), Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Slovakia. In the United States, it peaked at Number One on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart.
Avicii went on to be one of the highest paid DJ’s in the world, often commanding fees of $250,000 per night. In 2015 Forbes, the American business magazine put his career earnings at $19 million. His songs have been streamed eleven billion times on Spotify alone.
To date, Avicii’s album releases are two studio, one compilation, one remix and one mix album. He also released four EP’s, forty-eight singles and twenty-nine music videos.
In 2016, Avicii was taken into hospital suffering from acute pancreatitis; the condition is thought to have come from excessive drinking while on tour. He retired from touring that year after playing his last set in the Balearic island of Ibiza. He died aged 28 on the 20th of April 2018 near Muscat, Oman.
” The Nights ” was written by Avicii, Gabriel Benjamin, John Feldmann, Nicholas Furlong and Jordan Suecof.
Production for the single was by Arash Pournouri and Avicii. Arash is an Iranian-Swedish songwriter and record producer. Until 2016, he was the manager for Avicii. In addition to songwriting and producing, Arash is the owner of the music label PRMD and At Night Management, a booking agency.
The song was released on the 1st of December 2014 by record labels PRMD and Universal Music Group. It features on the EP, The Days / Nights. The two-track EP contains Henrik B and Felix Jaehn remixes of the singles as well as extended mixes.
The song features the uncredited vocals of co-writer Nicholas Furlong, the American singer, songwriter and producer. His music has a wide range of genres including rock, dance, pop and hip-hop. Along with his work with Avicii, Nicholas has worked with a variety of recording artists including WALK THE MOON, blink-182, 5 Seconds of Summer, Papa Roach and Good Charlotte.
The accompanying music video was directed by and stars Rory Kramer, the American director, videographer and star of Dare to Live, the MTV adventure TV show.
Rory, born on the 1st of June, 1984 in Indiana, United States, has worked with Justin Bieber, The Chainsmokers, Tori Kelly and Martin Garrix.
The idea for the footage in the video came from Nicholas Furlong and shows action-packed scenes of Rory cliff jumping, roller coasting, surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding and balloon flying. As of the 24th of April 2018, the video has 331,992,382 views on YouTube.
” The Nights ” was a commercial success for Avicii. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 24th of January 2015 and reached a peak of number six. It stayed for five weeks in the Top Ten and to date has spent thirty-three weeks on the UK chart.
In the United States, the single reached number ten on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and three on the Dance Club Songs charts.
” The Nights ” has also reached the Top Ten in Austria, Australia, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Poland and Sweden.
