Date of release: 1988/89
Description: ” The Promise ” is by When in Rome, the English dance/new wave group. The original lineup consisted of vocalists Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann, with keyboardist Michael Floreale.
The group took their name from the proverb When in Rome, do as the Romans do. The saying is attributed to Saint Ambrose, who was a bishop of Milan and went on to become one of the 4th century’s most influential ecclesiastical figures. It means to follow the conventions of the area in which you are residing or visiting.
Clive Farrington and Michael Floreale came up with the idea for the name after using the well-known proverb to explain the cultural differences between the UK cities of Manchester and London. After Virgin Records dropped them in 1993, the band split up shortly after. There are currently two versions of the band performing.
” The Promise ” was written by the members of the group with production for the single by Michael Brauer and Ben Rogan.
Michael is a Grammy award winning New York-based mix engineer and producer. For his work with Coldplay Michael won a Grammy for Best Alternative Album in 2001 and Best Rock Album in 2009.
