Titanium David Guetta ft Sia
Song Title: Titanium
Artist: David Guetta ft Sia
Date of release: December 9, 2011
Description: ” Titanium ” is by David Guetta ( Pierre David Guetta ), the French DJ, record producer and remixer. The song was written by Sia Furler, David Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort and Nick Van De Wall.
Production for the single was by David Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort and Nick Van De Wall ( known professionally as Afrojack ).
The song was released by record labels Virgin and Capitol US on the 9th of December 2001 and taken as the fourth single from David’s Fifth Album ” Nothing but the beat “.
The song was originally issued as a digital download on the 8th of August 2011 a one of four promotional singles.
A previous version of ” Titanium ” was leaked online in July 2011 and featured the vocals of Mary J. Blige, the American Grammy award-winning artist.
Australian artist Sia sings vocals on this version of the track. She’d recorded a demo which was sent out to various artists including Mary J. Blige but David decided that it was Sia’s version that was the one to go with.
Katy Perry was offered the track but declined, she felt the message was just to close to ” Firework “, her 2010 US Number One. David considered using other female artists for the track, Katy advised him to keep Sia’s vocals, so David took her advice and it was Sia’s vocals used.
Sia revealed later that her vocals from the demo was used by David without her permission, she said of the unauthorized use of her vocals ” And then Mary J. Blige sang it. And then he took her vocal off it, and put my vocal back on, my demo vocal, without asking and released it. And I never even knew it was gonna happen, and I was really upset. Because I had just retired, I was trying to be a pop songwriter, not an artist “.
Keeping Sia’s vocals on the track proved to be a good move, the ballad which has elements of house, pop and urban-dance was a huge hit with music critics with critical acclaim across the board.
A review by commonsensemedia.org said of the song ” The master of infectious dance beats, David Guetta does another respectable job with this track. Though the end result isn’t mind-blowing, the inclusion of strong vocals by Sia helps to make this a solid single “.
Writing for the British newspaper, Tom Ewing wrote ” Sia, on ‘Titanium’, handles the album’s best hook well “.
Rich Lopez reviewed ” Titanium ” for Dallas Voice ( a newspaper for the gay community in Dallas, Texas ) saying ” collaborative lyrics elevate this song to a higher level than any previous track” from the album, and called it “clever writing” from Sia ”
The accompanying music video for the song was shot on location in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac and at Dorval High School, in the province of Quebec, Canada.
Directed by David Wilson, it features actor Ryan Lee running from a SWAT team through woods. Both David and Sia are absent from the video.
” Titanium ” was a commercial success, in the United States it entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart at number 66 and climbed to reach a peak of number 7.
The song was certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and has sold 3,852,000 copies in the US as of March 2014.
Outside of the United States the song was also successful, it reached number 3 in David’s native France giving him his 13th top 10 hit there.
The song also made it into the top ten of charts in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
In the United Kingdom, ” Titanium ” made a debut at number 16 but fell back to number 31 a week later. After three weeks the song had dropped out of the top 100 chart.
The song re-entered the chart later and went on to become number one, making it David’s fifth Number One and Sia’s first.
