Tor Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen are known professionally as Stargate, the Norwegian record producing and songwriting team. Based in Los Angeles, they have worked with many of today’s top artists including Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Katy Perry, Coldplay, P!NK, Sia, Kylie Minogue and Lionel Richie.
Production for the single was by Jimmy Napes, StarGate and Steve Fitzmaurice, the Irish Grammy Award-winning mixer and producer. Based in London, UK, Steve co-produced and mixed ” Writing’s On The Wall ” from the 2015 James Bond film Spectre. The song became the first ever theme to reach the UK Number One spot.

During an interview with Apple Music, he explained about the song ” This song is about me and about a relationship I was in. ” About the to date untitled Album, Sam said ” This album actually is not all about me. There are about four songs that are about me, and the rest are about different things and different people in my life and what they’ve gone through. ”
The accompanying music video was filmed on location in Newcastle upon Tyne, a city in the North East of England. The city is famous for hosting the Great North Run, a half marathon which has over 57,000 runners participating.
The video was directed by Luke Monaghan, the English director. Luke has worked with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Flatbush Zombies, Wretch 32, Maverick Sabre, Tinchy Stryder, Disclosure and DNCE. He has also directed commercials for brands such as Nike, Adidas, Casio and ASOS, the British online fashion and beauty store.
” Too Good at Goodbyes ” has been a commercial success for Sam. In the United States, it reached a peak of number five on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. To date, it has spent three weeks on the chart there.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at Number One on the 21st of September 2017, and to date, it has spent three weeks at the top of the chart.
