True Blue Madonna
Song Title: True Blue
Date of release: September 29, 1986
Description: ” True Blue ” is by Madonna, the American Singer, songwriter. Written and produced by Madonna and Steve Bray, it was taken as the third release from her third 1986 Album of the same name.
According to Madonna, the title of both the single and the Album takes its name from an expression her then-husband Sean Penn used. At the time Madonna was very much in love with Sean, the whole Album was penned by her out of respect for him.
” True Blue ” is performed as a dance-pop song which took inspiration from the 1960’s Motown’s girl groups like the Supremes which there were over 700 that charted in both the UK and US during that decade.
The song had that bubblegum pop feel to it and shows Madonna’s ability to adapt to any musical style. The music critics had a mixed response to ” True Blue “.
Some said the song was a wonderful tribute to the 50’s and 60s girl groups; other critics were more scathing with The Wichita Eagle calling it “classless and neutered”. However, despite what the music critics thought, it seems the record-buying public had an excellent response to the song.
The song was released in the US in 1986 and entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart at number forty. From there it climbed up the charts over a period of six weeks to reach number three where it stayed for three weeks and spent a total of sixteen weeks on the chart.
Along with success on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, the song also reached number five on the Adult Contemporary Chart and number six on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
In Canada Madonna also had success with ” True Blue “, there the song entered the RPM Singles Chart at number eighty-four and later climbed to top the chart for one week.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at number three and climbed to reach number one for a week. The song stayed in the Top Ten for five weeks and spent a total of fifteen weeks on the chart.
Madonna also reached Number One in Ireland for two weeks and reached the top five in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Italy, and the Netherlands.
” True Blue ” also reached the Top Ten in Austria, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
