” Turn up the music ” is by Chris Brown ( Christopher Maurice “Chris” Brown ), the American singer, songwriter, dancer and actor. The song was written by Alexander “Fuego” Palmer, Chris Brown, Damon Thomas, Harvey Mason, Jr, Michael “Mike J” Jimenez, Terence Cole, Greg Bonnick, Leon Price, Hayden Chapman and Peter Renshaw.
The song was produced by Fuego and The Underdogs. Record producer Fuego is based in Los Angeles and a member of The Recording Academy. He also composes advertising music in the US and Germany and has worked for clients including Ford, BMW and Audi.
The Underdogs are Harvey Mason, Jr. and Damon Thomas, the American R&B and pop production duo. They have worked with many artists including Lionel Richie, Justin Timberlake, Donell Jones and R. Kelly.
” Turn up the music ” was released on the 7th of February 2012 by record label RCA and taken as the lead single from Chris’s fifth Album, Fortune.
The song is an uptempo mix of electronic dance and house music which urges everyone to indulge in a night of loud music and drinking with lyrics like ” Turn up the music, fill your cup, and drink it down “.
Chris repeats a chant ” If you’re sexy and you know it put your hands up in the air “, this was a reference to the 2011 Billboard Hot 100 Number One single by American duo LMFAO.
According to The Underdogs member Mason, Jr., the inspiration for the song came from picturing Chris as an artists ” how he dances and how he performs and giving him something to match that energy “.
Music critics gave positive reviews. Christina Garibaldi reviewing the song for MTV News said the song had similarities to ” Yeah 3x “, she added that it ” is destined to get people in the clubs and on the dance floor “. Boombox’s Georgette Cline called the song a ” dance-inspired track ” and added that it ” will undeniably move partygoers to showcase their best moves “.
” Turn up the music ” was a commercial success for Chris. In the United States, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number eight, it didn’t climb higher, but this position gave Chris his eleventh single to reach the Top Ten on the chart.
In Canada the song entered the Canadian Hot 100 Chart at number thirty-eight and climbed to reach a peak of number nineteen, it spent four weeks on the chart there.
The song entered the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom on the 7th of April 2012 and reached Number One which it held for one week. It spent three weeks in the Top Ten and a total of fourteen weeks on the chart there.
