Voyage Voyage Desireless

” Voyage, Voyage ” is by Desireless ( Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop ), the French singer. The song was written by Dominique Albert Dubois and Jean-Michel Rivat with production by Jean-Michel Rivat.
Claudie was born in Paris France on the 25th of December 1952; she later went on to become a fashion designer for a short time before entering the music business.
Claudie’s first taste of a music career came in 1983 with the French New Wave trio called Air 89, which also included Fred Milgram on bass and Miguel Perchey de Oliveira on guitars.
A year later, around 1984, she meets record producer Jean-Michel Rivat, and they begin working on new material together.
” Voyage, Voyage ” or ” Travel, Travel ” in English, was taken as the first single from her debut album, François, which was released in 1986.
Although the song is entirely in French, Desireless crossed language barriers with ease and went on to become a huge hit worldwide.
The song went on to reach the Number One position in over ten countries around the globe and notch up sales of five million copies.
Taking into consideration that ” Voyage, Voyage ” is sung entirely in French, the chart success of the song came as a surprise for many in and outside the music industry.
Even in countries that are usually closed to French language songs like the United Kingdom and Ireland, Desireless gained enormous popularity.
In the United Kingdom, ” Voyage, Voyage ” initially reached number fifty-three in 1987 and spent a total of seven weeks on the chart.
Success was to re-visit Desireless a year later in 1988 when the song was remixed by Pete Hammond and Pete Waterman of PWL, the record producers behind the likes of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.
After being re-released this time the song reached number five on the UK Singles Chart and stayed in the Top Ten for three weeks. The single spent a total of thirteen weeks on the chart for the second release.
Along with success in the United Kingdom, the song was also a hit in Ireland, where it reached number four twice. Once for the original release in 1987 and a second time after the remix by PWL in 1988.
With a touch of irony ” Voyage, Voyage ” failed to reach the top in France, where the song made it to number two.
