The Vengaboys were put together by Dutch producers Wessel van Diepen and Dennis van den Driesschen, who produced this track. The group enjoyed success in the late 1990s and had sold an estimated 25 million records worldwide. The Vengaboys released three studio Albums, eighteen singles and fifteen music videos.
It is estimated that they have sold 25 million records worldwide. On the 2nd of May 2001, Vengaboys picked up an award for best-selling dance group of the year at The World Music Awards. The awards show, founded in 1989, is based in Monte Carlo. They use sales figures supplied by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry ( IFPI ) as a basis for the awards.
The song was written and produced by Wessel van Diepen and Dennis van den Driesschen. Wessel is a Dutch songwriter, producer, radio host and movie trailer voice-over actors. Born on the 12th of November 1966 in Delft, Holland, he is one of the most successful dance-pop music producers in Dutch history with a total of ten UK Singles Chart top 10 hits including two Number Ones. Wessel also has Two Billboard Dance Chart number one hits, a gold Album in the United States and has worked on singles that have gone multi-platinum worldwide.
Dennis van den Driesschen is a Dutch music producer who uses the professional artist name Danski. Born on the 10th of June 1972, he has been writing and producing since 1994, Dennis is best for his partnership with Wessel van Diepen, writing and producing for dance acts including Vengaboys, DJ Jurgen, Alice Deejay, Nakatomi and Nance.
” We Like to Party! (The Vengabus) ” was released on the 9th of November 1998 by record label Positiva ( Universal Music Group ) and taken from the group’s second Album The Party Album.
The Album was released initially Worldwide in 1999 with the name The Party Album!, it was later re-released with a new title of Greatest Hits Part 1 and featured alternate versions of some of the songs with other songs from the original release being replaced entirely.
The Album was certified 2x Platinum in the United Kingdom with sales of 600,000 and Gold in the United States with sales of 500,000. It was also 2x Platinum in Australia with 140,000 copies sold and Canada 3x Platinum sales of 300,000.
The accompanying music video was directed by Wendelin van Diepen. It features the Vengaboys travelling in a 1930s style mini-bus to various destinations in the Province of Barcelona, Piera and Gavà. The tour ends in a nightclub in La Barceloneta, a neighbourhood in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
” We Like to Party! (The Vengabus) ” was a commercial success for the Vengaboys. In the United States, the song reached number twenty-six on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, spending twenty weeks on the chart there. It became the group’s biggest hit in the country, with sales of 405,000 copies. The song also reached number five on the Billboard Dance Music/Club Play Singles Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 13th of March 1999 and reached a peak of number three. The song spent five weeks in the Top Ten and a total of fourteen weeks on the UK chart.
