What Now Rihanna

” What Now ” is by Rihanna ( Robyn Rihanna Fenty ), the Barbadian singer and songwriter. The song was written by Olivia Waithe, Parker Ighile, Nathan Cassells and Rihanna.
Production for the song was by Parker Ighile, Nathan Cassells and Kuk Harrell. Kuk Harrell is one of the most sought-after vocal producers in the music business and has worked with artists like Justin Bieber, Cher and Katy Perry.
” What Now ” was released by record labels Def Jam and SRP on the 29th of August 2013 and taken as the fifth international track and Rihanna’a sixth overall release from her seventh album, Unapologetic.
The mid-tempo ballad was recorded in two different locations. The music for the song was recorded in the Metropolis Studios London in the United Kingdom. The studios are set in the Powerhouse built in 1901 by architect William Curtis Green to power trams.
The second location was at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles California, founded in the 1970s by Tom Hidley. Here Kuk Harrell provided the tracks vocal production and Rihanna’s vocals were laid down.
” What Now ” was then sent to Phil Tan at Ninja Club Studios in Atlanta in Georgia to be mixed with the help of assistant mixing engineer Daniela Rivera.
The video for the song was shot on location in a warehouse in Phuket, Thailand. The direction for the video was by Uprising Creativity’s Jeff Nicholas, Jonathan Craven and Darren Craig.
Rihanna explained the concept behind the video, in an interview she said ” It’s gonna be kind of eerie, very creepy because ‘What Now’ is one of those songs that you can get really boring with the visual. ”
Some have likened it to the 1973 American supernatural horror film, The Exorcist, which starred the Golden Globe-winning actress, Linda Blair, as Regan.
Wearing a simple nude gown and crucifix necklace, Rihanna looks as though she is experiencing an emotional breakdown. She dances and contorts in an all-white room while singing.
Some reviewers of the video found it slightly disturbing; a reviewer wrote in The Huffington Post ” The clip shows the 25-year-old singer in a spooky place, withering in a sparse room shot in a fashion similar to many horror movies. ”
Despite the creepy video, ” What Now ” was a commercial success for Rihanna. In the United States, the song peaked at number twenty-five on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent five weeks on the chart.
In the United Kingdom, the single entered the UK Singles Chart on the 30th of November 2013 and reached number twenty-one. The song spent five weeks in the Top Forty and a total of fourteen weeks on the UK chart.
