He became well known on the island for his impersonation of Elvis Presley.
It was some time before Bruno found success as a solo artist, in the years between launching his career and topping the charts around the world, he became a successful songwriter and producer. Bruno worked with artists like Alexandra Burke, Travie McCoy, Adam Levine, Brandy, Sean Kingston, Flo Rida and Sugababes, co-writing their UK Singles Chart number two single ” Get Sexy “.
His debut single, ” Just the Way You Are “, released on the 20th of July 2010, reached the top of the charts in both the US and UK. Bruno’s debut studio Album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, released on the 4th of October the same year, reached number three on the Billboard 200 Chart in the United States. In the United Kingdom, the Album topped the UK Albums Chart, spending two weeks there.
To date, he has released three studio Albums, two EPs, twenty-two singles and three promotional singles. Seven of his single releases to date are among the best-selling singles of all time. The song was released on the 27th of September 2011 by record label Atlantic ( Warner Music Group ) and was taken as the lead single from the soundtrack Album of the film, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.
The American romantic fantasy film was directed by Bill Condon and based on the novel Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer, better known for the vampire romance series Twilight.
The novels have become famous the world over and have sold well over 100 million copies. The soundtrack, released on the 8th of November 2011, is the fourth in the saga’s chronology.
The Album had first week sales of 105,000 copies and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 Chart. It was the first time that a soundtrack from the saga had failed to debut in the top two positions. However, the soundtrack Album was the fourth in a row to debut on the Billboard 200 Chart top five.
Lyrically the pop and pop-soul ballad explore the agony and torment of heartbreak. Music critics had mixed feelings about the song, many had praise for the vocals but criticised the way the song was over-dramatised.
The track’s instrumentation was compared to that of the Rolling Stones 1971 Billboard Hot 100 Chart number twenty-eight hit, ” Wild Horses “. There were also comparisons made to Bruno’s 2010 Billboard Hot 100 Chart topping single ” Grenade “, which featured on his debut studio Album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans.
The accompanying music video was directed by Bruno Mars and Phil Pinto, the New York-based director and producer. Phil has worked with some of the most significant brands in the world including Addidas, Dior, Google, IBM, Intel, MTV and Spotify. In addition to his work with Bruno Mars, he has directed music videos for artists like Charlie Puth, Diplo and The Black Lips.
” It Will Rain ” was a commercial success for Bruno. In the United States, the song debuted at number twenty-eight on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, eventually reaching a peak of number three. It spent twenty-nine weeks on the chart there.
The song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 19th of November 2011 and reached a peak of number fourteen. It spent four weeks in the Top Twenty and a total of fourteen weeks on the UK chart.
