” Wishing Well ” is by Terence Trent D’Arby ( born Terence Trent Howard, now called Sananda Francesco Maitreya ), is an American singer and songwriter.
The song was written by Terence Trent D’Arby and Sean Oliver. Sean was a founding member of Rip Rig + Panic, a post-punk band formed in 1981. The group named themselves after jazz saxophonist Roland Kirk’s 1965 album. Sean Oliver died in March 1990 from sickle-cell anaemia ( SCA ).
The song was produced by Terence Trent D’Arby and Martyn Ware. English producer Martyn Ware was a founding member of 80s groups the Human League and Heaven 17. As a record producer, Martin helped to revitalise the career of Tina Turner in 1983 with the song ” Let’s Stay Together “.
” Wishing Well ” was released in 1987 by record label CBS and taken as the second single from Terence Trent D’Arby’s debut album, Introducing the hardline according to Terence Trent D’Arby.

Anthea Benton is also a British music video and television commercials director; she is best known for her work on adverts for Stella Artois and Levi Strauss & Co. She worked with Vaughan Arnell on many music videos. They decided to split in 1996 and go their separate ways.
The accompanying video Terence is featured in a park in black and white and colour in the studio. He sits next to a girl on a bench who is reading Le Monde newspaper ( French daily evening newspaper founded by Hubert Beuve-Méry in 1944 ).
The song was a commercial success for Terence. In the United States, the song reached Number One on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for twenty-five weeks.
When ” Wishing Well ” made the Number One spot in the US it had charted for seventeen weeks. The chart run made it the slowest single to reach Number One since the British new wave music duo Eurythmics single ” Sweet Dreams ( Are made of this ) ” in September 1983.
In the United Kingdom, the single entered the UK Singles Chart on the 20th of June 1987 and reached a peak of number four. It spent four weeks in the Top Ten and a total of eleven weeks on the UK chart.
