” Wonderful Dream ( Holidays are Coming ) ” is by is by Melanie Thornton ( Melanie Janene Thornton ), who was an American pop singer.
Melanie was born on the 13th of May 1967 in Charleston, the oldest and largest city in the state of South Carolina, United States. A popular tourist destination, it is famous for its rich history, architecture and restaurants.
Also born in Charleston was Henry Peronneau in 1700. Henry, a wealthy businessman, made his fortune in the field of rice plantations and wine importing. Some say he was at one point, the wealthiest man in America.
Melanie was just six years old when she started studying voice; she also learnt to play the piano and the clarinet. Growing up listening to the likes of Aretha Franklin and Roberta Flack, she would often mimic the female singers she watched on television or listened to on the radio.
After moving to Germany and singing in clubs, Melanie came to the attention of Frank Farian, the German record producer and songwriter. He is best known as the founder and voice behind Boney M, the 1970s disco-pop group.
He also was the mastermind of Milli Vanilli; the German R&B duo made up of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus. After sales in the millions, they admitted that they didn’t sing on any of the records, which caused controversy at the time and has forever labelled them as the infamous Milli Vanilli.
Melanie was recruited by Frank Farian for another of his projects, La Bouche ( French for ‘ The Mouth ‘ ). He teamed her with Lane McCray, an American singer and rapper. Together Lane and Melanie went on to sell over ten million records, becoming one of the biggest selling dance acts of the 90s.
Melanie left La Bouche to pursue a solo career, releasing her debut single, ” Love How You Love Me “, in November 2000. The song reached a peak of number fifteen on the German Singles Chart.
On the night of November the 24th, 2001, Melanie died along with twenty-four others in the crash of Crossair Flight 3597. After departing from Berlin Tegel Airport, the plane crashed into a wooded range of hills near Bassersdorf on approach to land at Zürich Airport, only nine people survived.
” Wonderful Dream ( Holidays are Coming ) ” was written by Melanie Thornton, Mitchell Lennox ( produced ), Julien Nairolf ( produced ), Ben Naftali, Terry Coffey, Jon Nettlesbey, Rich Airis and Scott Temper.
The song was released on the 26th of November 2001 by record label X-Cell ( Sony BMG Music Entertainment ) and taken from Melanie’s debut and only solo album, Ready to Fly.
The album, released on the 7th of May 2001, featured both soul and dance songs. It was later re-released on the 26th of November 2001 as a special edition and featured additional bonus tracks. Ready to Fly reached a peak of number five on the German Albums Chart. It also reached number twenty in Austria and number four in Switzerland.
The song was written to be featured in a Coca-Cola Christmas promotional campaign in Germany. Although Melanie died at the beginning of the advertising season for Christmas, Coca-Cola decided to continue airing the commercial.
The original commercial has been shown around Christmas time on German TV every year since 2001. The song has been in the German Single Charts every year since. The advert has also aired in several other countries in Europe.
” Wonderful Dream ( Holidays are Coming ) ” was a commercial success for Melanie. In Germany the song reached a peak of number three on the German Singles Chart in 2001, spending 104 weeks on the chart there.
It also charted in Austria, where it peaked at number seven and spent seventy-nine weeks on the chart and in Switzerland, the song reached number three and spent forty-two weeks on the chart.
The song did not chart in the United States or the United Kingdom.
