Description: ” World of Our Own ” is by Westlife, who was an Irish boy band. The band were formed in July 1998 in Ireland’s capital, Dublin. The original members were Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan and Brian McFadden, who left in March 2004.
They had fourteen Number Ones in the United Kingdom. Over their fourteen years as a band, they made the top ten of the UK Singles Chart twenty-six times. According to the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ), Westlife 6.8 million singles in the country and have achieved sales of 11.1 million Albums. Worldwide the band have sold over 50 million records, a number that includes studio Albums, singles, video releases and compilations.
The company that compiles the UK charts, the Official Charts Company, listed Westlife at number thirty-four on the list of the biggest-selling singles artists in British music history. However, despite the success enjoyed by the lads from Dublin worldwide, they never had the same level of success in America. There they had only one single reach the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The single, ” Swear It Again “, released on the 25th of February 2000 in the United States, reached a peak of number twenty on the US chart.
Three months after Westlife disbanded in June 2012, Nicky Byrne revealed the infighting to band suffered during their later years together. He felt that dissolving the group was the right thing to do.Although some in the media made predictions of a future reunion, the members vowed they’d never reform, ending any speculation they may do so.
” World of Our Own ” was written by Steve Mac ( who produced the track ) and Wayne Hector. Steve is a British musician, songwriter and record producer. In 2013 he was awarded the ASCAP ( The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers ) Songwriter of The Year Award for his contribution to music. Steve co-wrote British-Irish boy band The Wanted’s UK chart-topping single ” Glad You Came “, which also reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Along with Westlife, he has worked with many famous recording artists including Demi Lovato, Shakira, One Direction, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, The Saturdays, Rita Ora and James Blunt.
Wayne Hector is a British songwriter. He began his career in music as a member of Rhythm N Bass, the new jack swing group. One of his first songwriting credits was the UK Singles Chart number six single, ” Forever ” by Damage, the British R&B boy band. Wayne has worked with many artists including Nicki Minaj, One Direction, The Wanted and Olly Murs. He wrote seven songs for Westlife’s, each one reaching the top of the charts in the UK.
” World of Our Own ” was released on the 18th of February 2002 by record label Sony BMG ( Sony Corporation of America and Bertelsmann AG ) and taken as the second single from the band’s third studio Album of the same name.
The Album, released on the 12th of November 2001, reached the top of the Albums Chart in the United Kingdom, Iceland and Ireland. It was certified 4x Platinum in the United Kingdom with 1.2M copies shipped and to date is the fourteenth biggest selling Album by boy band ever in the country.
” World of Our Own ” was featured on the soundtrack for You Wish!, the 2003 Disney Channel Original Movie. The movie was based on the 1991 novel If I Had One Wish by Jackie French Koller, the American children’s author.
The accompanying music video was directed by Antti Jokinen, the Finnish music video and film director. Antti has directed music videos for the likes of Beyoncé, Anastacia, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Korn, Lordi, Shania Twain and Wyclef Jean.
As a film director, he is best known for directing The Resident. The British thriller starred Hilary Swank and Jeffrey Dean Morgan with a cameo from the legendary Hammer Films star Christopher Lee. Shot in New York City and New Mexico, it had mixed reviews.
” World of Our Own ” was a commercial success for Westlife. The song entered the UK Singles Chart at Number One on the 2nd of March 2002, spending one week at the top. It spent three weeks in the top ten and a total of eighteen weeks on the UK chart. The song became the band’s tenth chart-topper in the country.
