” You Sang to Me ” is by Marc Anthony ( Marco Antonio Muñiz ), the award-winning American singer, songwriter, actor, record producer and television producer.
Marc was born on the 16th of September 1968 in East Harlem ( also called Spanish Harlem ), New York City, USA. Marc’s parents named him after Mexican singer and actor Marco Antonio Muñiz, born on the 3rd of March 1933, who is famous across Latin America, Brazil and Poland.
Marc started his career in music as a session vocalist for freestyle and acts playing in the Underground New York house music scene. To avoid confusion with the established Mexican singer and his namesake, he changed his name before becoming a songwriter and backing vocalist for pop acts like Menudo and the Latin Rascals, a duo consisting of Tony Moran and Albert Cabrera.
In December 2016, Billboard magazine ranked Tony as the 92nd most successful dance artist of all-time after he had a string of hits on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart in the United States.
Marc’s first studio album, When the Night is Over, was a collaboration with Little Louie Vega, the American DJ, record producer and remixer. Only one single was released from the album. ” Ride on the Rhythm ” reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart and peaked at number seventy on the UK Singles Chart in 1991.
Marc is best known for singing Latin salsa numbers and ballads. He has won a Grammy award twice during his career. The first was in 1998 for ” Contra La Corriente “, which won him Best Latin Tropical Performance and again in 2000, when he received a Latin Grammy Song of the Year ( the first ever in that category ) for ” Dímelo ” ( I Need to Know ).
To date, Marc Anthony has released forty-nine singles, twelve studio Albums and fifteen music videos. His album sales are over twelve million worldwide. As the top selling tropical salsa artist of all time, Marc is recognised by Guinness World Records for the most Number One Albums on the Billboard Tropical Albums year-end charts.

The Grammy Award Winning American songwriter and record producer was raised in Jamaica, a middle-class neighbourhood in the New York City borough of Queens. Cory has worked with many of the world’s top recording artists including Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Jackson and Destiny’s Child. Cory owns a company, the Cory Rooney Group (CRG), which manages writers and producers. The company’s primary focus is music for television, fashion and publishing. He also owns a barber shop called Mr Rooney’s in the neighbourhood where he was raised.
” You Sang to Me ” was released on the 20th of February 2000 by record label Columbia ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and taken as the third single of Marc’s first English language album, Marc Anthony.
The album, released on the 14th of September 1999, became if fourth album release overall. It peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200 Charting the United States, where it has been certified 3× Platinum with sales of three million. It also charted in the Top Ten in Canada, Austria, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden.
There are two versions of the ballad, English and Spanish. The English-language version was the nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. It was the second year in a row for Marc to be nominated. He was beaten by Sting with ” She Walks This Earth (Soberana Rosa) “. The track was a collaboration with Chico César, Ivan Lins, Vitor Martins and Brenda Russell for the album, A Love Affair: The music of Ivan Lins.
The accompanying music video was directed by Jeff Richter, the American music video director, editor and commercials director. He owns Earthquake Productions, directing and editing his music videos, concert films and commercials. Jeff has directed twenty-eight music videos for the likes of Megadeth, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Jurassic 5, Ziggy Marley and Nine Inch Nails.
The video features Kristy Hinze, the Australian model. Born on the 16th of October 1979, the model, actress and television host was just fourteen years old when she was contracted to appear in the Australian edition of Vogue magazine. She later appeared in Sports Illustrated and the Victoria’s Secret catalogue.
” You Sang to Me ” was a commercial success for Marc Anthony. In the United States, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart at number seventy-seven. Fourteen weeks later it climbed to reach number five, finally peaking at number two. The single spent six weeks in the Top Ten and a total of thirty-two weeks on the chart there.
It reached Number One on the Billboard Adult Contemporary, Hot Latin Tracks and Tropical Songs charts.
The song also peaked inside of the Top Ten in Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
