Description: ” You spin me round (Like a record) ” is by Dead or Alive, the British group from Liverpool. The song was written by Pete Burns, Steve Coy, Wayne Hussey, Tim Lever and Mike Percy with production by Stock Aitken Waterman.
Released by the Epic record label, the song was taken from the group’s 1985 Album ” Youthquake ” and was to become the first number one by the production trio Stock Aitken Waterman.
According to Pete Burns it wasn’t plain sailing in the production of the song, the record company didn’t like it, so Pete had to fund the recording himself with a £2,500 loan. To add to the success in the US, ” You spin me round (Like a record) ” also achieved number one status on the charts of Canada, Switzerland and Ireland.
In the United Kingdom the song took 17 weeks to reach number one in March 1985 after being released as a single in November 1984. The song spent 2 weeks at the top and a total of 36 weeks on the chart.
