Patty Brard came from Sorong in New Guinea ( the name Sorong comes from the Biak language and means deep and wavy ocean ). Before joining LUV’ she worked as a secretary in the office of Hans van Hemert, who produced for LUV and also Mouth & MacNeal.
José Hoebee was born in Best, a village in the southern Netherlands situated northwest of the city Eindhoven. She began her professional career as a singer in the early 70s with folk & country band Young Tradition, along with her 2 sisters.
After taking part in talent shows, they changed their name to Elongi and recorded a single. It was their producer, Piet Souer, who made the suggestion that José join LUV.
Marga Scheide was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She took part in many beauty pageants and modelled for the covers of various artist hit compilation Albums.
” You’re the Greatest Lover ” was written by Hans van Hemert and Piet Souer. Hans is a Dutch American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers ( ASCAP ) award-winning record producer and songwriter. Along with LUV he also produced for Mouth & MacNeal and composed three songs that were entered into the Eurovision Song Contest.
Piet Souer ( Pieter Cornelis “Piet” Souer ) is a Dutch record producer, songwriter and arranger. He began his career with The Valiants, a rock band from Eindhoven.
His big break came when he played guitar on Lenny Kuhr’s 1969 winning Eurovision Song Contest entry ” De troubadour “. Piet went on to compose two songs for the contest, Bernadette’s entry in 1983 ” Sing Me a Song ” and Maxine & Franklin Brown’s ” De eerste keer ” in 1996, both songs came 7th in the contest.
” You’re the Greatest Lover ” was released in July 1978 by record labels Philips and Phonogram Records ( Phonogram was never a record label as such, but a holding company for labels which included Phillips, Fontana, Vertigo and Mercury ) and taken from the trio’s debut Album With Luv’.
The song became their breakthrough international single in 1978 with sales of One Million copies. In addition to the Netherlands, the trio gained chart places in Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Mexico.
During 1978 and 1979 LUV became Holland’s best-selling act overseas with the trio receiving the Export award from Conamus, a foundation dedicated to the promotion and support of Dutch music abroad.
LUV had commercial success with ” You’re the Greatest Lover “. In the Netherlands the song reached Number One on both the Dutch Top 40 chart and the Nationale Hitparade ( known today as the Single Top 100 ), the song was certified Platinum there.
It was also a hit in Austria, Belgium/Flanders, Denmark, France, Germany, South Africa and Switzerland. Six of the countries the song was released in it made number One.
