You’re Such a Good Looking Woman Joe Dolan

” You’re Such a Good Looking Woman ” is by Joe Dolan ( Joseph Francis Robert ‘Joe’ Dolan ), who was an Irish entertainer, recording artist and pop singer. The youngest of eight, Joe was born on the 16th of October 1939 in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland.
After acquiring his first guitar in 1958, Joe and his brother, Ben, who played the saxophone, started to gig with local bands. They soon formed a band called The Drifters, however as there was already an American group with that name and to avoid any legal action; it was changed to Joe Dolan and His Drifters.
During the summer of 1968 some of the members of the band left, with Joe and his manager Seamus Casey citing ” musical differences ” for the band’s split. During the 1960s Joe was offered the opportunity to play live in Las Vegas, the offer to which he turned down.
He eventually accepted the invitation in the 1980s and in doing so secured a $10,000 per week residency at the Continental Lounge of the Silverbird Casino on the Strip in Las Vegas. However, Joe declined any further attempts to perform; he would only return to Las Vegas in future for vacations.
In the latter part of the 1970s, Joe toured communist Russia, making him the first Irish artist and one of the first Western acts to so. When he visited South Africa, the UN added Joe to their blacklist because of the system of apartheid in the country at the time.
His popularity as an entertainer meant that Joe is the only Irish singer to top the charts in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s in his native Ireland. His music also became popular overseas.
Joe has left a legacy that lives on; his popularity is such that a bridge was named after him and erected in his hometown of Mullingar. The bridge, which is the longest bridge in the Republic Of Ireland at 1,770 feet ( 540 metres ), was opened on the 6th of September 2010. In the town square, there also stands a statue of Joe. He died at the age of 68 on the 26th of December 2007.
